VBAC - Vaginal Birth After Cesarean

Maybe your friends, family or neighbors say VBAC doesn't exist anymore or your present caregiver says not to "bother" because a cesarean birth will be "easier". (for whom?) I have attended 41 VBACs in Guadalajara, all with Dr José Luis Grefnes. Six of those joyous births were with families who experienced 2 cesareans before learning about the risks of cesareans and discovering the benefits of vaginal birth for mother, baby and the birthing family.

I am an Advisory Board Member of ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) and welcome the opportunity to share evidence based research that supports your desire for a vaginal birth even though you have had already had one or more cesarean births. Why not read the "Fact Sheet; Risks of Cesarean Delivery to Mother and Baby" published by the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services CIMS to learn more about the short and long term consequences of this surgery? Other "must read" articles about VBAC and cesarean are available through Childbirth Connection

In spite of the time, patience and confidence we bring to each birth, 10-15% of the births we attend are cesareans. Our goal is to assure that it is still a family centered celebration with the baby brought immediately to the mother's chest and remaining there during the conclusion of the surgery. Dads are a vital part of the process and always attend the surgery.... this is more than the birth of a baby, this is the birth of a family!
